Expert support into the Fourth Trimester

Empowering you with knowledge and confidence to help you and your baby thrive - breastfeeding support, sleep, mental health, and more.

Did you know? The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child's life, but the Growing up in New Zealand report revealed that 97% of Kiwi babies are breastfed initially, but this number drops to 53.4% at four months and further to 15.7% at six months. According to the Ministry of Health, the current national average for exclusive breastfeeding at 3 months is 47%, while the expectation set by the Ministry is 70%.

Enter your email and Rebecca will send you your free eBook, Breastfeeding Bites, for new and expectant parents, packed full of essential information to help you navigate the beautiful and sometimes challenging world of breastfeeding.

Hi, I'm Rebecca

As a mother of two young children and a midwife of more than 14 years I understand the incredible bond that forms between parent and child. I also know just how challenging the journey of parenthood can be and that it’s not easy to find the right advice and help when you need it most.

That’s why I founded Heart and Hands - as a way to share my lifelong passion and knowledge for enhancing the wellbeing of mothers and their babies, by offering evidence-based practices, compassionate care, and expert guidance.

My professional and personal journey as a mother has deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to creating a nurturing and safe environment for families during the pivotal Fourth Trimester. It would be an honour to accompany you on your unique journey into parenthood, offering my expertise, compassion, and unwavering support.

Together, we can navigate the challenges, celebrate the milestones, and create a foundation of love and wellbeing for you and your little one.

"The moment Rebecca comes into your life you can relax. She's an extremely skillful and compassionate lactation specialist. She single-handedly saved our breastfeeding journey with seemingly endless tips and tricks and always knew the right thing to say. I cannot recommend her enough." - Lydia

Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding plays a critical role in child health and development. It is a complete and unparalleled source of nutrition for infants. It is safe, clean, and contains essential antibodies that protect against numerous common childhood illnesses. But, unfortunately, this vital practice is declining.

Research has consistently shown that breastfed children experience numerous long-term health benefits. They tend to perform better on intelligence tests, have a reduced risk of being overweight or obese, and are less prone to diabetes later in life. Moreover, breastfeeding also offers significant health advantages for women, including a decreased risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

Common reasons for discontinuing breastfeeding include poor initiation of breastfeeding, perceived inadequate breast milk supply, poor suckling/attachment, and the inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes, as well as a general lack of support and education for families.

We are over burping already!

January 3, 2024
I believe I can safely speak for parents across the land when I say, "WE ARE OVER BURPING ALREADY!!" We've all been there, in the middle of the night, as the moon's glow seems to taunt us with its sleepy radiance. We've gone through the routine: breastfeed, burp (for what feels like a million years)...
